About the Artist

Claude Lehman has been a studio potter for 30 years, having worked with clay from an early age. At Sarah Lawrence College, he studied with Mikhail Zakin where he was introduced to ceramic artists from China, Japan and Korea as well as the pottery of Bernard Leach. Those strong early influences have stayed with him throughout his career. While influenced by the aesthetics of these potters - and many contemporary potters in the decades since - central to his work and inspiration is the making of functional objects for everyday use.

Claude opened his first pottery studio in an industrial area of the Burlington waterfront in 1994. He later built and operated a studio in his home. He has sold his work at craft fairs and arts venues throughout Vermont and New England and at the Burlington Farmer's Market.  In 2016 he opened a new studio and showroom in Burlington's South End Arts District. In addition to making and selling his pottery, Claude teaches ceramics at Community College of Vermont and has taught pottery at local institutions for over 25 years. He currently lives in Burlington with his wife and children.
